------ Beyerl, Joseph (04 JUN 1943 - 30 OCT 1966)
Joseph Beyerl, 23, Colby, was fatally injured when his car went out of control
and crashed on county trunk N, about three and a half miles east of Colby, about
1:20 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 30. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Beyerl, Colby.
Marathon county authorities said skid marks indicated that the car had swerved
onto the right shoulder of the road after clearing the crest of a low hill and
rounding a slight curve. It then skidded across the road and into the left ditch
where it rolled down an embankment, coming to rest on its side. The right front
tire was found to have blown out. Beyerl was thrown from the car, and was found
lying about 10 feet away. There were no passengers in the car.
Eugene Makovec, route 2, Colby discovered the accident, which took place in
front of his home, after his wife had heard the sounds of the crash. He called
marathon county police. The victim was taken by Colby ambulance to St. Joseph’s
hospital, Marshfield, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at St. Mary’s Catholic church,
Colby. The Rev. John Pinion officiated, and burial was in the parish cemetery.
Military rites were conducted by the Colby Veterans of Foreign Wars. A rosary
service was held Tuesday evening at the church. Funeral arrangements were
handled by Lulloff Funeral Home, Colby.
Joseph Beyerl was born June 4, 1943, at Mosinee. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic
school, Colby, and graduated from Colby high school.
Following his graduation from high school, he enlisted in the navy, serving as a
torpedo man aboard a destroyer. He received his discharge from the service in
1964, and had been employed at packaging Corporation of America, Colby since
that time. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic parish.
Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Beyerl; two sisters, Jeanne (a
twin), Washington, D. C., and Diane, at home, and two brothers, Paul, Stevens
Point, and Dan at home.
