George S. Cook died Thursday, Nov. 3, at 2 p.m. at his home in Unity at the age of 91 years. He had been confined to his bed for the past seven months and the cause of his death was pemphigus.

The funeral was held at the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby Saturday, Nov. 5, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. R. James Hagen of the Spencer-Colby Methodist church officiating, with burial in the Brighton cemetery. Ted Domer, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Domer, sang “Rock of Ages” and “The Old Rugged Cross”.

Mr. Cook was born September 13, 1875, at Stockbridge, Wis., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Cook. The family moved to Unity when he was a year old, and Unity had been his home since that time.

He was married to Lida Gillett April 11, 1900, who died in March, 1932. He then married Lloyd Ravy on June 14, 1933, at Nashua, Ia.

Mr. Cook was a veteran of the Spanish-American War, an honorary member of the Abbotsford Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Unity American Legion.

Mr. Cook represented the village of Unity as supervisor on the Marathon county board for more than 50 years. He retired in April, 1965. He was the first licensed inspector for the motor vehicle department, joining the staff in 1918. Then in 1939 he was one of the first five captains of the state traffic patrol. He retired from the state patrol in 1948.

Pall bearers were his grand sons: Dennis, Douglas, Robert and Ray Cook, Myron Fleming and the Rev. Virgil Holmes. The honor guard were members of the state traffic patrol: Capt. H. J. Fuhrman, Sgt. Paul F. Collins, Troopers Fred Frater, R. C. Young and Dennis Gease, and former members Emmet Welsh, Morris Johnson and Capt. Al Boelter.

Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Sewell, Wisconsin Rapids, and Calvin, Unity; five daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Vera) Mabbott of Unity, Mrs. Lee (Merle) Holmes of Viroqua, Mrs. Raymond (Fern) Fleming and Mrs. Everett (Shirley) Capes, both of Marshfield, and Mrs. Russell (Fae) Andrews of Spencer; one brother, Raymond Cook of Marathon; Mrs. Edith Tollefson of Solon Springs; 19 grand children and 38 grand children. He was preceded in death by a daughter, a son and three brothers and four sisters.

Relatives and friends attending the funeral were from Curtiss, Abbotsford, Wausau, Marshfield, Green Bay, Oxford, Withee, California, Waukesha, Plainfield, North Prairie, Hixton, Greenwood, Montello, Packwaukee, Janesville, Edgar, Beaver Dam, Pennsylvania, Loyal, Menomonee Falls, Stratford, Reedsburg, Stevens Point, St. Paul, Minneapolis, Dorchester, Cedarburg, Stoughton, Wisconsin Rapids, Spencer, Madison, Chicago, Athens, Rice Lake, and Chippewa Falls.
