Viegut, Clarence E. (28 OCT 1937 - 10 SEP 2014)
Clarence E. Viegut, 77, Tomahawk, died on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at Aspirus Hospice
House in Wausau.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Sept. 15 at St. Paul's Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Tomahawk, with Rev. Mark Schoenherr officiating.
Generations Funeral Home of Tomahawk assisted the family with arrangements.
Clarence Viegut was born on April 12, 1937 in Stratford to the late Clarence and
Florence (Wyman) Viegut, and was raised in Dorchester.
On June 1, 1963, he married Elaine Abegglen, who survives. He served in the
National Guard for 10 years and was on active duty during the Berlin Crisis. In
1967, they moved to Tomahawk and built the Holiday Station Store. In 1970, the
Viegut's Tomahawk Car Wash was added, and he later opened Tomahawk Trailer and
Boat Sales. He owned and operated Viegut's Do It Express of Tomahawk for close
to 50 years. He was also a licensed cheesemaker for 10 years.
He was an active member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, and received
numerous awards and recognitions for his community involvement including the
Lifetime Service Award from Governor Walker in 2013. He enjoyed hunting,
fishing, spending time at the cabin making maple syrup, growing Christmas trees
and tending to his garden, flowers and plants.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Brian (Carmen) Viegut of
Tomahawk; a daughter, Brenda Moss of Waunakee; three brothers, James (Sherry)
Viegut and Mark (Darla) Viegut, both of Abbotsford, and Jeff (Sue) Viegut of
Tripoli; eight sisters, Charmaine (Harold) Amacher and Judy (Verlyn) Wittlinger,
both of Abbotsford, Yvonne (Donnie) Koerner of Dorchester, Jelaine (Jerrell)
Carstensen of Medford, Gail (Duane) Underwood of Colby, Debra (Greg) Stoiber of
Green Bay, and Cindy (Jeff) Sebold and Carla (Duane) Wepfer, both of Marshfield;
a sister-in-law, Joyce Viegut of Abbotsford; and four grandchildren, Taylor,
McKena, Alex and Elise.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, LaVern, and a
son-in-law, Terrence Moss.
Memorials are appreciated to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Sacred Heart Hospital
Foundation or Our Sisters' House (homeless shelter).
