Arthur C. Chase, 79, of Oshkosh, a retired conservation warden, died early
February 7 at the home of his son, Arthur R. Chase, in Neenah, following an
apparent heart attack. Services were held Friday afternoon from an Oshkosh
funeral home with the Rev. John K. Baumann, associate pastor of First
Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was made in Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Chase was the brother of Roy and Joseph Chase, Miss Fanny Chase, Mrs. Muriel
Kutchera and Mrs. Milo (Leona) Mabie, all of Neillsville, and of Clarence Chase
of Cicero, Ill., Elmer Chase of Montana and Mis Ina Chase of California. In
addition to his son, survivors also include three grandchildren.
Born in Saxeville on May 26, 1893, to Joseph and Dora Chase, Mr. Chase was
married in Menominee, Mich., on May 11, 1918, to the former Meta Rasmussen, who
died August 6, 1964. He had been a conservation warden from 1924 until his
retirement in 1958. He worked for the first two years in the fisheries division
and as a part-time warden, and on September 1, 1926, became a fulltime warden in
Oshkosh. At a meeting of the Wisconsin Conservation club in 1953, he was
presented with the Haskell Noyes award for being an outstanding warden.
Mr. Chase served with the army during World War I, and was a member of the First
Presbyterian Church, Cook-Fuller Post No. 70, American Legion, and of the
Oshkosh Conservation Club.
