Needham, Walter Joseph (8 March 1903 - 11 February 1973)
Walter Joseph Needham, 69, of Rt. 1 Owen, died February 11 at St. Joseph’s
Hospital in Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the
Longwood Emmanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. David E. Wenger officiating.
Burial was made in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Mark, Paul and Scott
Needham, Nelson, Bernard and Brian Niemi.
Mr. Needham was born March 8, 1903, in Fennimore and was married May 20, 1927,
in Greenwood to Gertrude Davey, who survives him. He was a graduate of
Platteville Teachers College in 1923 and taught school in the Longwood area for
16 years and in Withee for six years. Many in our vicinity will remember that he
taught in the Gorman area from 1927 to 1929. He had lived in the Longwood area
for many years and then moved to Owen.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Richard Needham of Loyal; a
daughter, Janet Niemi of Owen; a brother, Orville Needham of Fennimore; and 10
grandchildren.
