Rosaline Marie Plautz was born on Oct. 29, 1922, in Willard, the 12th child of
Stephen Sr. and Mary (nee Popovich) Plautz. She was raised on the family farm
and received her education at North Willard School, proudly earning her GED in
1976. As a young woman, Rose worked at home on the farm before moving to
Milwaukee where she was a crane operator at International Harvester. She married
Frank A. "Butch" Pakiz on Nov. 30, 1946, at Holy Family rectory. Rose and her
husband farmed and raised a family until retiring in 1980. After retirement, she
had many interests, but especially loved spending time with her family and
friends, baking potica and strudel, gardening, canning, sewing, needlework and
providing musical entertainment with her husband at area nursing homes. She
loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, even learning to connect with
them by computer. Rose also loved to travel, making seven trips to Slovenia to
visit with family there. She was very knowledgeable about her family history and
was instrumental in the creation of the Willard history book, Spominska
Zgodovina. She also was noted for remembering everyone's birthdays and
anniversaries, baking many cakes for these occasions. She was a member of Holy
Family Catholic Church, PCCW, Slovenian Women's Union, Slovenska Druzba and a
past member of the Clark County Choraliers and the Merry Homemakers Club.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Frank, Greenwood; her children, Larry
(Sue) Pakiz, Greenwood, Dave (Betty) Pakiz, Crystal Lake, Ill., and Patrice
(Alton Accola) Pakiz, Apple Valley, Minn.; her grandchildren and great
grandchildren, Becky (Tim) Hinds and Jack, Abigail, and Theodore of Peoria,
Ill., Mike (Tara) Pakiz and Logan of Destin, Fla., Troy (Jennifer) Pakiz and
Amelia and Malia of Rockville, Ind., Todd (Kaysie) Pakiz and Brayden and Addison
Rose of New Prague, Minn., Nicole (Tim) Pline and Ethan and Isaac of Chesapeake,
Va., and Andy (Anna) Pakiz and Gavin and Caroline of Fort Collins, Colo.; two
sisters-in-law, Marge Plautz, Withee, and Ellen Plautz, Marshfield; and many
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
