Luther, Douglas (30 January 1920 - 11 March 1973)
Douglas Luther, 53, of Merrill and a former Greenwood resident, died March 11 in
a hospital in Marshfield, where he has been a patient for the last week. He had
also been hospitalized at Merrill for a week.
Mr. Luther was the son of Emil and Blanche Luther. He was born January 30, 1920,
in Greenwood, and had been an employee of the railroad for 25 years.
He was married in Texas August 3, 1942, to the former Eldora Kuester, who
survives. After their marriage they lived in Junction City until moving to Dancy
and then to Merril three years ago.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: a son, James Luther of Holmen; a
daughter, Mrs. Mark Wolk of Stevens Point; his father, Emil Luther, a resident
of a nursing home in Tomahawk; a brother, Kenneth Luther of Wausau; and four
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held March 14, in Merrill. Burial was made in the
Greenwood Cemetery. The Rev. David Logue, pastor of the Zion United Church of
Christ in Greenwood, officiated. Graveside military rites were conducted by the
Wallis-Hinker Legion Post No. 238 of Greenwood.
Attending the services at Merrill from Greenwood were Mrs. William Kuester and
Loretta, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Kuester and Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Toburen.
