Mrs. Emma Roder, 99, died Monday morning, December 26, at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Fred Timm Sr., town of Frankfort.
The body lay in state at the Polnaszek Funeral Home at Abbotsford from Wednesday
morning until Thursday noon when it was taken to the First Presbyterian church
at Abbotsford where services were conducted at 2 o’clock with the Rev. Charles
E. Glidden officiating.
Burial was made in the Evangelical Cemetery at Milan.
Mrs. Roder, the former Emma Notbahm, was born Feb. 9, 1867, at Watertown,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Notbahm and received her grade school education
there. On April 16, 1890, she was married to William J. Roder at Whitewater.
They farmed in Jefferson county, later coming to Marshfield, after which they
pioneered a farm in the Milan area.
Mrs. Roder, an accomplished musician, taught music and for many years served as
organist and secretary-treasurer at the Evangelical church at Milan. She was a
member of the First Presbyterian church of Abbotsford, and was active in civic
affairs at Abbotsford.
Three years ago, due to ill health, Mrs. Roder gave up her home in Abbotsford
and went to live with her daughter, Mrs. Timm.
Surviving her are one son, Harlo Roder of Racine, and two daughters, Mrs. Fred
(Violet) Timm, route 2, Colby, and Mrs. Grand (Viola) Pope of route 1,
Stetsonville.
There are 15 grand children and 31 great grand children.
She is also survived by one brother, Al Notbahm of Chelsea, and one sister, Mrs.
Jeanette Krentz of Ft. Atkinson.
Preceding her in death were her husband and six brothers and one sister.
