Coenen, Loretta T. (Grassel) (21 OCT 1923 - 15 OCT 2014)
Loretta T. Coenen, 90, Medford, formerly of Auburndale, died on Wednesday, Oct.
15 at Aspirus Medford Hospital in Medford.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, Oct. 20 at St. Michael's Catholic
Church in Hewitt. Entombment was at Forest Hill Cemetery Mausoleum in Wisconsin
Rapids. Her seven grandchildren served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were
John Thom and Eddie Voss. Rembs Funeral Home of Marshfield assisted the family
with arrangements.
The former Loretta Grassel was born on Oct. 21, 1923 in Blenker to the late
Wolfgang and Rose (Brandl) Grassel. She attended St. Kilian's Parochial School
in Blenker and Auburndale High School.
On September 8, 1942 at St. Kilian's Catholic Church in Blenker, she married
Damian H. Coenen, who preceded her in death on Dec. 27, 2004. She was employed
at Worzella's Grocery Store for 10 years and then Kieffer's Grocery Store for 10
years, both in Auburndale, and also at Figi's in Marshfield for a year.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where she served as secretary and
treasurer of the Christian Mothers Society. She enjoyed playing cards,
especially sheepshead, gardening, her flower beds, gambling, taking trips around
the United States and camping.
Survivors include a son, Francis "Fran" (Sharon) Coenen of Westboro; a daughter,
Marilyn (Gary) Zellmer of Eagle; a sister, Caroline Ashbeck of Wisconsin Rapids;
a brother, Rueben (Romelle) Grassel of Marshfield; seven grandchildren, Angela
(Greg) Becker, Kerry Coenen, Lisa (Steve) Schantner, Wendy (Robert) Rudolph,
Tara (Rick) Freeman, Bradley (Erin) Zellmer and Chad (Megan) Zellmer; 16
great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild;
and three step-great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by; five
sisters, Agnes, Germain, Dorothy, Annabelle and Rosemary; 10 brothers-in-law;
and two sisters-in-law.
