Gumz, James P. "Jim" (18 MAY 1957 - 25 OCT 2014)
James P. "Jim" Gumz, age 57, of rural Abbotsford, passed away on Saturday, Oct.
25, 2014, at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.
Jim was born on May 18, 1957, the son of Harold and Mary (Swobada) Gumz in
Wausau. He graduated from Abbotsford High School in 1976. Jim was united in
marriage to Grace Marie Fochs on October 22, 1976, at St. Patrick's Catholic
Church in Halder.
Jim has been a self-employed farmer since 1981, when he entered a partnership
with his brother, Michael. In 2011, he began farming on his own.
Jim loved life. He loved working the land, taking care of his cattle and family.
Jim liked riding motorcycles and working on them. He enjoyed hunting with his
children and neighbors. Jim also liked to play cards and UNO and an occasional
game of foosball. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Jim is survived by his wife, Grace Gumz of Athens; his three sons, Jacob Robert,
Nicholas Charles and Alex James; two grandchildren, Aiden James and Riais
Varela; and his mother, Mary Gumz. He is further survived by his five siblings,
Delmar (JoAnn) Gumz of Wausau, Roger Gumz of Milwaukee, Michael (Sue) Gumz of
Athens, Suzie Frane of San Antonio, Texas, and Patty Monroe of Grand Prairie,
Texas; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He is loved and will
truly be missed.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold.
A memorial Mass was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, at St. Thomas
Catholic Church in Milan. Family and friends were welcomed on Tuesday from 4-8
p.m. at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford and on Wednesday from 10
a.m. until time of service at the church.
