------ Frane, Victor J. (16 MAR 1877 – 24 MAR 1967)
Victor J. Frane, 90, Wittenberg, a former Colby area resident, died Friday,
March 24, at a Birnamwood nursing home where he had been living for the past
year. Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Colby.
The Rev. John Pinion officiated, and burial was in the parish cemetery. Funeral
arrangements were handled by Lulloff Funeral Home, Colby. Pallbearers were
Howard, Glenn, Roy, Ronald, Gene and Gary Frane.
Victor Frane was born March 16, 1877, in Fond du Lac county. As a young boy, he
came to Unity township with his parents. He worked in the wood and sawmills and
as a cheesemaker in this area. In 1940 he began farming in the town of Colby.
Mr. Frane later operated the Lyndale dairy milk route in the Colby area for many
years, and in 1946, he sold his farm to his son, Alvin. Since that time he had
made his home at Wittenberg, and traveled to Whitetail, Mont., where he cleared
land.
His fourth marriage took place February 11, 1964, at Holy Family Catholic
church, Wittenberg, to Mrs. Mary Sender, who survives. His three previous wives
preceded him in death.
Mr. Frane served as an official of the town of Colby for several years and was a
member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Surviving are four sons, Arthur, Abbotsford, Vincent, Owen, Edward, Royal Oak,
Mich., and Donald, Colby; three daughters, Mrs. Mathias (Lucille) Allar, Colby,
Mrs. Myron (Evelyn) Kniess, Cyrene, Mo., and Mrs. William (Catherine) Roohr,
Medford, Ore.; 46 grand children and 49 great grand children.
In addition to his first three wives he was preceded in death by two sons, three
brothers and three sisters.
