------ Rusk, Viola (10 NOV 1890 – 05 MAY 1967)
Mrs. Viola Rusk, 76, Abbotsford, died in her sleep Friday morning, May 5, at Oak
Park, Ill., at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Ed. Landa. The body lay in state at
the Drake Funeral Home in Chicago until Sunday night after which it was brought
to the Polnaszek Funeral Home, Abbotsford, where the Abbotsford Chapter of the
Order of Eastern Star held a service Monday evening.
Services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the First Presbyterian
church at Abbotsford with the Rev. Charles Glidden officiating. Paul Nixdorf was
the organist.
Pallbearers for the interment which was made in the Abbotsford cemetery were
Hans Amacher, Dr. C. V. Hinke Sr., Lowell Dorn, Francis Melvin, Floyd Roth and
Roland Roth.
The former Viola Minshall was born Nov. 10, 1890, in Carlton, Minn. At the age
of 10, she came to live at Colby when her father was transferred by the railroad
company to Abbotsford where he was depot agent. They lived there for the first
few years then came to live at Abbotsford, where Mrs. Rusk spent her girlhood
years.
She was married to Frank Rusk who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Rusk made her home in Abbotsford and its women’s organization. For many
years she was pianist for the summer Bible school. She was also a member of the
Abbotsford Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and a charter member of the
auxiliary to the American Legion Post 139.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ed (Ione) Landa of Oak Park, Ill., and
Mrs. John (Eleanore) Waters of Chicago; three grand children, Mrs. Carol Landa
Scanio of Melbrose Park, Ill., John Landa of Oak Park and Philip Waters of
Chicago. There are three nieces and a nephew in the Chicago area and a
sister-in-law, Mrs. Leslie Minshall, Largo, Fla.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother,
Leslie Minshall.
Mr. and Mrs. Landa and son and Mr. and Mrs. Waters and son attended the funeral.
