Mrs. Fritz Baldes, 58, of Abbotsford died at 7 a.m. Thursday, May 18, at St.
Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield, where she was a patient since April 15.
The body lay in state at the Polnaszek Funeral Home, Abbotsford, Saturday and on
Sunday was taken to Chicago. On Monday morning a mass of requiem was sung at
10:30 at St. Theresa’s Catholic church, followed by interment in St. Joseph’s
cemetery, Chicago.
The former Katherine Illich was born in Wyondotte, Mich., Feb. 27, 1909. She
went with her parents when they returned to Austria-Hungry and she received her
education there. After returning to the United States in 1928 she attended
Birnam’s Beauty School in Chicago and operated her own beauty shop.
Her marriage to Fritz Baldes took place Aug. 10, 1936, at Elmwood Park, Ill.
In 1951, they came to Colby, and later lived for a year at Curtiss Corners. In
1961 they came to Abbotsford where they operated the Abbotsford Clothing Store
until the ill health of Mrs. Baldes caused them to sell it very recently.
Besides her husband, she is survived by an only daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Kathleen)
Grissaffi, Chicago.
