Meyers, Julius (Murder Trial Begins – 10 Jun 1918)
On Monday the trial of Julius Meyers, charged with the murder of his wife, was
started at Black River Falls, and it is being heard by Judge Wickham of Eau
Claire. Meyers is being defended by E.W. Crosby and District Attorney Rush is
being assisted by L.M. Sturdevant and Mr. Becker, an assistant in the attorney
general’s office. The state is leaving no stone unturned to secure the
conviction of Meyers, for there is very strong circumstantial evidence against
him. About 100 witnesses have been subpoenaed in the trial. Among those from
here who went as witnesses or in official capacity Monday were R.F. Kounts, F.D.
Calway, Sheriff Hewett, Miss Gertrude Cummings, S.F. Hewett.
