Shortville (20 Jun 1918)
There will be a Red Cross celebration on the Fourth one-half mile north of
Winters’ store. There will be a parade, program, an able speaker, racing of all
kinds, ball game and the band will play, also a martial band. Everyone welcome.
A man enroute from Iowa to Ole Larsen’s passed through here Sunday with horse
and cart.
Mrs. T.M. Winters and daughter, Merill, are visiting at their daughter’s near
Evansville.
Miss Essa Bender is visiting her home folks.
Minnie Kauth is here from Lake Mills visiting relatives and old friends.
Wm. Otto had his house shingled the first of the week.
The town is being canvassed this week in behalf of the salvation army fund.
A large crowd attended the Aid at Mackeprang’s. They will meet with Mrs. Andrew
Short next month.
The Red Cross ladies will meet this Thursday with Mrs. Ed. Short and next week
Thursday with Mrs. Arthur Wilding.
