Miss Lida Cannon is visiting friends at Loyal.

Chas. Schlote was at Marshfield Monday on business.

Miss Marion Lynch visited with friends at Eland last week.

There are about 5,000 Germans interned in the United States.

John Reine spent several days last week at Cazanovia on business.

Mel Darling spent a few days with his parents at Waupaca last week.

Mrs. Chas. Poole went to Alma Center on Monday to spend a few days.

Miss Katherine Bunkleman went to Oshkosh Sunday to attend the normal.

Miss Blanche Gates went to Stevens Point Monday to resume her normal work.

Mrs. Lou Hatch of Tacoma, Wash., is here on a visit with her sister, Mrs. A.C. Pitcher.

D.H. Rosenberg went to Rochester Monday to receive treatment at the Mayo Hospital.

Alfred Hauge and wife and Joe Benjamin and wife spent Sunday at Grand Rapids.

V.C. Nehs went to Rice Lake Saturday to spend a few days with his wife, who is visiting there.

Mrs. Mary Whitehead of Minneapolis, a sister of J.G. Zimmerman, is visiting at the Zimmerman home.

Lieut. M.C. Rodolf arrived here Monday from Atlanta, Ga., to spend a short furlough with his wife at the W.L. Hemphill home.

Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Ward and Robt. Swann returned home to Milwaukee Monday after a brief visit with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kayhart.

Mrs. Ed. Gruber returned home to Prairie du Sac Monday after a brief visit here with relatives. Mrs. Geo. Bruley accompanied her home for a short visit.

Mr. and Mrs. Aug. Lintner of Mosinee autoed over last week and spent a couple days here. Mr. Lintner was a former employee of the Dwyer & Kurth meat market.

R.H. Merrill and E.L. Rice drove up from Melrose Saturday to spend a day with the latter’s father, Henry Rice. Mr. Merrill is foreman of the Melrose Chronicle and paid this office a very pleasant call.

A son was born on Saturday to Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ott.

Lieut. John Rude is home from Camp Grant on a 10-day furlough.

Mrs. Henry Schroeder was called to Reedsburg Sunday by the death of her sister. Mr. Schroeder went down on Tuesday to attend the funeral.

Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Goddard and children of Richland Center autoed up on Saturday and spent a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam McNelly.

Neillsville will not hold a Fourth of July celebration this year, but will attend those to be held at Granton, Shortville, Pleasant Ridge and other nearby points.

Miss Grace Withee of Minneapolis came down on Friday and accompanied Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Rush on an automobile trip to Milwaukee and Rochester on Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Wiesner and children and Miss Hattie Carskadden autoed up from La Farge on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Wiesner and Mrs. Dittmer drove to Ladysmith to spend Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. P.H. Griffin.

Joe Marsh, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Marsh of Marshfield, is dangerously ill at Ft. Leavenworth with but slight hopes for recovery. The young man has many friends in this city who will hope for news of his recovery.

Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Schruth drove over from Minneapolis last Friday and are visiting the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gehrt. Mrs. Gehrt, who had been visiting them, returned home with them. Mr. Schruth left Monday for Dickenson, N.D., where he has a large water and sewer contract.

Mrs. Ernest Hobbs went to Menasha on Tuesday.

Mrs. H.A. Albright was at Chili Monday afternoon.

Emil Mattson and son were at Marshfield on Monday afternoon.

I. Robole of Woodville spent Sunday here with Mr. and Mrs. P.R. Anderson.

Mr. and Mrs. George Pepper returned Monday from a visit at Janesville.

C.B. Dresden will move his livery barn into the Merchants Hotel barn on July 1st.

Miss Fern Pratt of Baraboo is a guest at the H.M. Root and W.L. Smith homes.

Jacobson and Fred Amentorp and their families autoed down from Withee Sunday and spent the day with Ole Andersen and family.

Harry Neff took his little son to Marshfield on Tuesday for an operation. He was accompanied by Mrs. Geeslin.

Rev. and Mrs. Maagelson and children of Amherst came Saturday for an over Sunday visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ole C. Hanson.

Miss Marion Rhode, who has been visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Free, returned home to Madison Monday. Miss May Free accompanied her as far as Merrillan.

Frank Schuh and Frank Kohl, two Marshfield boys, were severely wounded in France. The casualty list is getting closer to home every day.

Judge O’Neill and F.D. Calway went to Baraboo Monday for a short term of court, after which the Judge will go to Racine to attend the meeting of the State Bar Association.

Miss Irene Kubat celebrated her 9th birthday last Thursday.

Mrs. Ervin Snow of St. Paul is here for a brief visit at the home of her brother, J.N. Ripplinger.

Mr. and Mrs. John Kubat and daughter, Irene, autoed to Greenwood Sunday to visit Mrs. Kubat’s brother, Jos. Klinke, who is on the sick list.

A certain young lad used one of Bert Dresden’s cars without permission one day last week and as a result was penalized 60 days at hard labor. He will be put out on a farm to work during that period.
