Mohr, Alex (October Junior Kiwanian - October 2014)
Serving the youth of the community and helping to ensure that they have the
encouragement and support to meet life’s challenges is a central focus of
Kiwanis clubs across the nation. At the local level, clubs engage in activities
and projects that help to carry out this mission. A good example of this
commitment to youth is the Junior Kiwanian program, which has been an ongoing
feature of the club for more than 50 years.
As the first Junior Kiwanian for this school year, the Neillsville Kiwanis Club
is pleased to have Alex Mohr in attendance at Monday meeting for the month of
October. He is the son of Al and Deb Mohr and is a senior at Neillsville High
School. He was introduced to club members by Kiwanian Herman Seebandt at the
Oct. 6 meeting at the American Legion.
Often with high-achieving students, Mohr has put forth the effort to excel at
academics, athletics and in numerous extra-curricular activities throughout his
time in high school. H e is a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish
Honor Society, has spent four years on Student Council, including years as
president and vice president, and served three years as class officer.
Extra-curricular activities include six years in band, with participation at the
state level in solo ensemble competitions, and active involvement with the Clark
County Town & Country Partners 4-H Club, where he has entered computer art in
the fair. Athletically, Mohr will be a four-year member of the track and field
team as a pole vaulter.
In the community, he is a active in St. Mary’s Catholic Church as an altar
server and sits on the Neillsville Improvement Committee. He has put his
interest in computer art and graphic designing posters and shirts for school
clubs, painting a mural in the school commons and creating a logo for the
Thirsty Bookworm. Mohr is also employed part-time as a clerk at Sniteman
Pharmacy.
As expected from this highly-motivated student, he has plans to pursue a degree
in art and possibly computer science at UW-Madison next fall, with a career goal
of becoming a graphic, web or game designer.
The Junior Kiwanian program of the Neillsville Kiwanis Club gives recognition to
outstanding senior students, provides an introduction to the concept of a
service organization and emphasizes active participation in the community
throughout the lifespan. Welcome Alex Mohr as Junior Kiwanian.
