Aviation Electronics Technician First Class Sylvester Skaleski of Withee (Clark
Co., Wis.), has been chosen as Sailor of the Quarter at the Naval Air Reserve
Training United (NARTU) here.
Assigned to the Aviation Technical Training Department, Skaleski was selected by
a board of chief petty officers. The award is based on professional, military
and supervisory performance, and his leadership ability.
The chiefs also considered Skaleski's safety consciousness, adaptability
interest in advancement, attitude and integrity.
Nominees from each NARTU department were submitted to the CPO board, which then
recommended Skaleski to Captain B.G. Preston, NARTU's commanding officer.
The award includes a 72-hours liberty, a dinner for two and his picture
displayed on the NARTU Quarterdeck.
Skaleski enlisted in the Navy in June 1957 at Wausau, Wis., upon completion of
recruit training at Memphis, Tenn., he was assigned to VS-31. He reported to
NARTU here, last year.
Skaleski has received the Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal
and the National Defense Service Medal.
He is married to the former Phyllis Ciolkosz, of Stanley, and his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Victor Skaleski, live at RR. 1, Withee. He was graduated from
Owen-Withee Senior High School in 1957.
