Depa, Peter Paul (7 June 1932 - 21 November 2014)
Peter P. Depa, age 82, of Stanley, formerly of Thorp, passed away on Friday
November 21, 2014, at Country Terrace Assisted Living, in Stanley, surrounded by
his family. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, November
25, 2015, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church, in Thorp. Rev. Janusz
Kowalski officiated and burial followed at St. Mary of Czestochowa Catholic
Cemetery in Stanley. Visitation was held at Thorp Funeral Home on Monday,
November 24, 2014, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 Rosary service. Visitation
was also held at the church, on Tuesday, from 11 a.m. until time of service.
Peter Paul Depa was born on the family farm in the Town of Taft, rural Thorp, on
June 7, 1932, the son of Paul and Anna (Posda) Depa. Peter attended Thorp High
School, but left to farm full time upon the unfortunate death of his father.
Peter married Margaret Schreier on Oct 15, 1960, at Sacred Heart Catholic
Church, in Edson, and later raised their four children. After her death on Oct.
13, 1989, Peter found love again and married Alvina (Hera) Nezda-Swatzina July
3, 1993, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp.
He was a farmer to the core. Even, when he retired from milking cows, he
continued to grow amazing floral gardens and his Good Friday potatoes. He
enjoyed polka music, woodworking, traveling, fishing, and hunting with his
family. He was a fourth degree member of the Thorp Knights of Columbus Queen of
Peace Council #4634, and was the financial secretary and trustee of St. Mary of
Czestochowa Catholic Church, i Junction, for many years. His smile and quick wit
will be greatly missed by his family.
Peter is survived by his wife, Alvina, of Stanley; four children: Leonard
(Debbie) Depa of Chippewa Falls, Donna (Dean) Slowiak of Chippewa Falls,
Lawrence (Jackie) Depa of Menomonie, and Paul (Rachel) Depa of Delano, MN; eight
step-children: Sheila (Tony) Carey of Frederick, CO, Dough (Tammy) Nezda of
Mauston, WI, Dan Nezda (Fiancée Nelene) of Chandler, AZ, Michele Nezda of
Denver, CO, Brad (Donna) Nezda of Eau Claire, Bruce Nezda of Stanley, Christine
(Jim) Nesterick of Stanley, and Cynthia (Bill) Petefish of Chippewa Falls; 10
grandchildren: Julie, Joe, Katie, Mathias, Eric, Peter, Isaiah, Thomas,
Annamarie and Nicolaus; 10 step-grandchildren: Jon, Katie, Sam, Nick, Dakota,
Matt, Jacob, Ashley, Teagan and Morgan; two step-great-grandchildren: Lucas and
Anna; one brother: Joseph (Joan) Depa of St. John, IN; two sisters: Juliana
Wiklanski of Petoskey, MI and Pauline Andronowitz of Huntington, CT; two
brothers-in-law: Mike Norks of Greenwood, and Wally Filipek of Niles, IL; three
sisters-in-law; Bernice Depa of Thorp, Marie Depa of Niles, IL and Joanne Depa
of Kenosha; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and nine siblings: Frank Depa, Marcella
Kaszubowski, Andrew Depa, Anton Depa, Louis Depa, John Depa, Agnes Zielke,
Frances Norks, and Helen Filipek.
