Babbitt, Myrtle Winifred (22 February 1924 - 18 November 2014)

Myrtle W. Babbitt, age 90, of Thorp, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2014, at Ministry Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2014, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Thorp, with burial in East Thorp Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, from 11 a. m. until time of service.

Thorp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Myrtle W. Babbitt, age 90, of Thorp, WI, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2014, at Our Lady of Victory Hospital, Stanley. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 12014, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, in Thorp, with Rev. Paul Bittner officiating. Burial will be held in East Thorp Cemetery at a later date. Pallbearers were: Grady Babbitt, Lance Babbitt, Jay Babbitt, Chris Bielecki, Cory Bielecki, and Jimmie France.
Visitation was held at the church, on Friday, from 11 a.m. until time of service.

Myrtle Winifred Anderson was born in Forest Lake, MN on February 22, 1924, the daughter of Spencer and Mary (Johnson) Anderson. She was raised and educated in the Forest Lake area, graduating from Forest Lake High School in 1942. Myrtle was united in marriage to Allen G. Babbitt on May 6, 1943, at her parents’ home in Forest Lake. They lived in Chicago until 1959, at which time they moved to Thorp, WI. They owned and operated Babbitt’s Café and Teen Stop until her husband’s death in 1968. She later worked as the manager of Ben Franklin Store in Thorp, and as a cook/waitress for Leon Pawlak at the Thorp Dairy Bar until its closing.

Myrtle served on Board of Directors for Thorp Housing Authority for many years. She had many interests, but especially loved sewing, crocheting, knitting, and writing Morgan Plaza’s weekly article for The Thorp Courier.

Myrtle is survived by three sons: Rick (Carol) Babbitt of magnolia TX, William (Ellen) Babbitt of Thorp, Tom Babbitt of Stanley; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four sisters: Shirley (Clayton) Moore of Wyoming, MN, Hazel Eiffler of Moose Lake, MN, Beatrice (Omer) Good of Clear Lake, IA, Alice (Rodney) Nowak of Black River Falls, WI; one brother, Wally (Gloria) Anderson of Forest Lake, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Allen, in 1968; one son, James C. Babbitt, in 1991; and two sisters: Muriel Trenton and Marie Tozier.
