Abney, Jack (20 JAN 1928 - 28 NOV 2014)

Jack Abney, age 86 of Colby, passed away November 29, 2014 at Ministry St Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Jack was born January 20, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan and was raised in Kentucky. In 1946 he enlisted in the US Army. He served in various locations such as Kansas, Germany, Great Lakes, Illinois, Colorado, Japan, South Korea and Vietnam. He was a master paratrooper, infantryman and an ROTC instructor.

During his travels, he met his beautiful bride Kathleen Kaiser, an Army nurse. They met and were married in 1956 and had four children before he retired from the Army in November, 1966. He moved the family to Colby in 1967 and they had three more children. He worked at Hubing Auto Supply until 1987 and then he worked at the Abbotsford Post Office until he retired.

Jack was on the 17th Honor Flight to Washington DC on September 8, 2014. His son Tony had the honor of being his guardian. Dad felt truly honored to spend the day in the company of comrades and heroes.

Jack is survived by Kay, his wife of 58 years and his children: Marie (Francis) Fleischmann of Marshfield; Diana (Mark) Yokimcus of Marshfield, Tony (Bobbi) Abney of Marshfield, Denise (Lonny) Roberts of O’Fallon IL, Anita (Karl) Zacharias of Mondovi, Michelle McCarthy of Wausau, and Joy (John) Draxler of Hewitt.

He is also survived by his grandchildren: Eric and Kari Buza, Allison Yokimcus, Nathan, Stepanie, Kaitlyn, Kaleb and Kaci Abney, Sean and Justin Roberts, Jenna and Jacob Zacharias, Dominic McCarthy and Hailey Draxler. Jack is further survived by his step-grandchildren Travis Yokimcus, Chris Fleischmann and Nikki Zacharias. Jack and Kay also had one great-grandchild Olivia Abney and three step great-grandchildren. Jack is further survived by his siblings Ken (Helen) Abney, Glen Abney and Gail DeLeon all of Mt. Vernon, KY and brother-in-law Donald (Marlene) Kaiser, sister-in-law Ruth (Bob) Blume and many nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, a son Andrew, two brothers Virgil and Cecil, in-laws Andrew and Amanda Kaiser, sisters-in-law Mercedes Barr and Betty Abney, and four nephews Gary Abney, James Abney, Casey Blume and Michael Abney.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a man of strong faith. Jack enjoyed the Packers, coffee calls and imparting his wisdom to whomever would listen. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the annual camping trips and our holiday traditions. He will be fondly remembered for his love of family and his quirky sense of humor.

Family and friends are welcome from 4-8 pm on Tuesday, December 2 and again from 10-11 am on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford.

The services will follow at 11 am. Father Hackel will officiate. Burial with Military Honors provided by the Colby VFW Post #2227 at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Colby with his grandchildren as pallbearers.

Jack Abney, who is employed by the Hubing Auto Supplies in Colby, was presented a plaque by the Gates Fan Belt Company. It was given to him for superior salesmanship. It was a mystery award.

A daughter was born Wednesday, May 21, 1969 to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Abney at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. Anita Rae weighed eight pounds and three ounces at birth, and joins one brother and three sisters at home.

Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Kaiser, Colby, and Mr. and Mrs. Lester Abney, Mount Vernon, Kentucky. One great-grandmother, Mrs. Alma Schemenauer, lives at Athens.

Hagedorn, Mr. and Mrs. Louis (40th - 1985)

The children of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hagedorn hosted a party at the Wild Cat Pavilion in honor of their parents 40th wedding anniversary on Saturday afternoon and evening, June 8.

The couple was married on June 10, 1945, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Globe, by Rev. Adolph Schumann. The attendants at the wedding were Melvin Marg, Neillsville; Evelyn (Hagedorn) Krause, deceased; Janette (Fahrbach) Luedtke, Kaukauna; Wilbert Henchen, Neillsville; Clarence Hagedorn, Fond du Lac; Lorraine (Hagedorn) Shaw, Neillsville. The flower girls were Patricia (Hagedorn) Strangfeld, Neillsville and Barbara (Krause) Moldenhauer of Osseo.

There were four sets of twins born of this union, Diane Murphy, and Donna McDonald, Neillsville; John, Sheboygan Falls, and Jerold, Winona, MN; Louis, Neillsville, and Lois Oldham, Granton; Bruce, and Bonnie Thoma, Neillsville. They are also blessed with 21 grandchildren.

Van Kirk, Jodie Nan (22 June 1985)

Pastor Donald King and Ben Peterson officiated during the 2:00 p.m. ceremony, Saturday, June 22, on the front lawn of Tuft’s Museum, Neillsville, joining Jodie Nan Van Kirk and Dr. Audie Louis Mook in marriage. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Van Kirk, Humbird, as given away by her father. She wore a bridal dress in tulle, with a pearled Alencon lace bodice molded to dropped waist and a veil of gathered net attached to a decorative cap. Her flowers included Sonia Roses with many garden fresh flowers accented with lace, ribbon and greenery.

Maid of honor, Kelly Janke, and attendants, Mrs. Randy Collins, Fall Creek, Mrs. Larry Hollett, Humbird, Mrs. Doug Taylor, Champaign, Illinois, Carmen Mayer, La Crosse, and Mrs. William Kernz, Neillsville, wore dresses of peach taffeta and carried multi-colored flowers, accented with peach ribbon on hand crocheted fans. The flower girl was Toni Lyn Hollett and the ring bearer was Joshua Janke.

The bestman was Bob McKelvey, West Frankfort, Illinois, with groomsmen John Zenner, Spencer; Mark Ruchti, Chicago; Dave Dodge, Chicago; Mark Bush, Downers Drove, Illinois, and Mike Houck, Robbinsdale, Minnesota.

Mike Houck and Kim Dyrud were soloists accompanied by Nelda Stuve on the piano.

A reception was held at the Wildcat Inn. Wedding photography was performed by Strack Photography, Neillsville.

The bride is employed as a nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, and the groom is a teacher and a coach in the Marshfield and Spencer school districts. A wedding trip is planned for a later date. The couple will reside in Marshfield.
