Lesniewski, Mary Ann (Marriage - 21 July 1973)
Miss Mary Ann Lesniewski and Thomas E. Smasal exchanged wedding vows Saturday,
July 21, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thorp. The Rev. John Puerner
officiated at the 1:30 p.m. ceremony which joined the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Lesniewski of Thorp and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Smasal of rural
Stanley.
The bride’s gown of sheer organza was styled with an empire waistline, high
neckline and long full, sheer bishop sleeves. The gown was enhanced with a band
of Chantilly lace beginning at the neckline and reaching to the hem. The slim
skirt featured a detachable chapel train. Her lace Camelot headpiece held a
bouffant, shoulder-length silk illusion veil. She carried a colonial bouquet of
pink sweetheart roses, baby’s breath and white carnations as she was given in
marriage by her father.
The matron-of-honor was Janet Lesniewski, Eau Claire. Bridesmaids were Joyce
Hedler of Eau Claire, Brenda Noeldner of Thorp, Edith Possley of St. Paul, Mn,
and Betty Ann Gralewski of Cicero, Il. Lavender dotted Swiss formed their
empire-waist gowns fashioned with scoop necklines, baby doll sleeves and ruffled
hemlines. Picture hats with lavender ribbons and baskets of white, lavender and
Gigi-pink carnations with baby’s breath completed their costumes.
Jerry Brenner, Thorp, served as best man. Groomsmen were Dean Mahr of Stanley,
Harry Schultze of Thorp, Larry Reit of Stanley, and John Telisczak of Gilman.
Ushering duties were performed by Richard Lesniewski, William Bishop and Robert
Lesniewski.
The groom’s niece, Lori Gerrits, was the flower girl.
Joseph Possley was the organist and Diane Mamayek, was the soloist.
The bridal couple greeted guests at a reception at St. Hedwig’s Hall in Thorp.
Hostesses at pre-nuptial events were Syl Mamayek, Audrey Vanderhyden and Marian
Bielecki.
A 1968 graduate of Thorp High School, who also attended the University of
Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the bride is a bookkeeper for a Thorp oil company. The
groom graduated from Stanley High School in 1967 and also graduated from La
Crosse Technical Institute. He is a self-employed body shop operator.
A wedding trip to the East coast and Florida is planned. The newlyweds will make
their home at rural Thorp.
