Evanson, Florence (7 June 1917 - 4 January 2015)
Florence Evanson, 97, of Wausau passed away peacefully Jan. 4, 2015, under the
care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, Wausau.
She was born June 7, 1917, in Neillsville, daughter of the late Otto and Lottie
(Marx) Miller. She married Orville Evanson Oct. 12, 1941, at St. John’s
Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville. They spent their early married life
in Neillsville where Florence was employed at the Farmers Store. In 1964, the
couple moved to Wausau where they made many happy memories. Florence and her
husband have been together for 73 years. He survives.
Florence was a member of Our Savior’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wausau.
Florence will be remembered as a faith-filled, joyful soul with a great sense of
humor. A defining feature was her love of nature. For many years, she devoted
much time and talent to a thriving garden. Florence enjoyed traveling, and she
and her husband traveled to all 50 states and all provinces of Canada as well as
10 European countries. She was an active member of Sons of Norway and she also
loved dancing, music, and pontooning up North and was an avid snowmobiler for
many years.
In addition to her husband, Orville, Florence is survived by two sons, Dennis
(Linda) of Wausau, Duane (Anna) of Stratford; and one grandson, Mark (Dawn) of
Texas.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two half-brothers, Harold and
Harley Miller, Neillsville; two step-sisters, Lorraine Feyen, Moline, IL, and
Jean Borden, Davenport, IA.
A celebration of Florence’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015,
at Our Savior’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wausau. Rev. Robert M. Edwards will
officiate. Friends may call Thursday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time
of services.
