Thorson, Gloria (29 JUN 1947)
Before a candlelit altar Miss Gloria Thorson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy W.
Thorson, 306 S. Maple St. exchanged nuptial vows with John C. Bast, son of Rev.
and Mrs. J.C. Bast, St. Charles, Minn. The Rev. Mr. Bast performed the double
ring ceremony at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church on Sunday, June 29, 1947.
Three sisters of the bride were attendants. Their dresses were similarly styled
of taffeta with overskirt of net. Mrs. Donald Denk wore blue and Misses Bernelda
and Twyla Thorson wore pink and yellow, respectively. Each wore mitts to match
her dress and carried arm bouquets of white gladioli and ferns.
The groom was attended by Roy W. Thorson, Milwaukee, brother of the bride, who
was best man, and Donald Denk, brother-in-law of the bride, and Larry Thorson,
the bride’s brother.
For her wedding Mrs. Bast chose a gown of white satin styled with an overskirt
of net appliqued with satin flowers. Her full length veil was draped from a
crown of seed pearls and rhinestones. She carried a cascade bouquet of red roses
and swansonia.
Following the ceremony a reception for 50 guests was held at the home of the
bride’s parents. The wedding day was chosen in complement to the bride’s father,
whose birthday is June 29. Mr. and Mrs. Thorson also celebrated their 24th
wedding anniversary June 30.
Following their honeymoon, the young couple will make their home in Springfield,
Ill., where Mr. Bast will attend Concordia Theological Seminary. (Marshfield
