Mr. and Mrs. George Kern, who have resided in this community for the past 68
years, left Sunday to make their home with their daughter, Mrs. Al Stroski (Seroski?)
in Chicago.
Mr. Kern, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kern, was born in Philadelphia in
1871, and Mrs. Kern, the former Lena Sundermeier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Sundermeier, born in Germany in 1874 and came from Germany when five years of
age and settled in Sheboygan, and in 1878 came to this community (Greenwood,
Clark Co., Wis.)
The Kern family came from the East in 1879 and settled 1 1/2 miles west of
Greenwood on the present farm. In 1896 Mr. and Mrs. George Kern married in
Greenwood. They have 9 children: George in Missouri, Clarence, Georgetown,
Minn.; William, address unknown; Ted, Ed and Ross on the home farm; Hazel, Mrs.
L.J. Mueller, and Violet, Mrs. Al Stroski, of Chicago; and Mabel, Mrs. Otto
Moldenhauer of Cincinnati, Ohio.
