Gurney, Elma Mae (5 November 1917 - 15 January 2015)
Elma Gurney, 97, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, at the Neillsville Care and
Rehabilitation Center.
Elma Mae Gurney was born Nov. 5, 1917, in Withee, the daughter of Wesley and
Hattie (Fosnow) Kauffman. She grew up in Abbotsford and graduated from
Abbotsford High School in 1935 as valedictorian. She married William ‘George’
Gurney April 29, 1937, in Janesville. She had been a resident of Neillsville
since 1950.
Her favorite hobbies were fishing, gardening, playing cards and going to the
casino.
She is survived by her children, Charles (Laura) Gurney of Sarasota, FL, Louie
(Diane) Gurney of Neillsville, Eugene (Sue) Gurney of Neillsville, Barbara
(Steve) Roberts of Neillsville, William Gurney of Neillsville, Galen Gurney of
Marshfield, Nancy (Arthur) Hosking of Sheboygan, and Ronald (Linda) Gurney, a
grandchild they raised. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren,
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Carol
Gurney of Waukesha; a son-in-law, Wayne ‘Bill’ Oldham of Neillsville; and a
grandson-in-law Donald Finck.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William ‘George,’ her
son, Jerome Gurney; her daughter, Lucille Oldham; a granddaughter, Theresa Finck;
and a grandson, Adam Oldham.
Funeral services for Elma were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at the
Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville, with visitation from 9 a.m. until time of
services. Pastor Jacoba Koppert officiated. Interment was in the North Pine
Valley Cemetery.
