Schaefer, Arnold "Shrimp" R. (23 JUL 1929 - 23 JAN 2015)

Arnold "Shrimp" R. Schaefer, age 85, of Milan, passed away with his family by his side on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, under the tender care of hospice, at Colonial Center in Colby.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Milan. Father Paul Hoffman will officiate. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30 at the church, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.

Arnold was born on July 23, 1929, the son of Werner C. and Louise (Vesley) Schaefer, on the home farm in Milan. He was a 1948 graduate of Abbotsford High School. Arnold was united in marriage to Virginia "Ginny" H. Gall on Aug. 6, 1952 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester. They just recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.

Arnold was a dairy farmer. He took over the family farm in 1952 and farmed until retirement age in 1996. Together Shrimp and Ginny had 12 beautiful children.

Arnold held much pride in taking the Abbotsford baseball team to state in 1948. He also was known as a very good dartball player. When called on to take one shot, he was the guy. But most importantly, he loved to attend his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. He loved his family and enjoyed family get-togethers and celebrations.

Arnold is survived by his wife, Ginny; 12 children, Kathleen (Randall) Kuck of Athens, Michael (Debra) Schaefer of Gilman; Steven (Julie) Schaefer of Edgar, Julie (Frank) Sterzinger of Minocqua, Daniel (Jane) Schaefer of Milan, Mary Jo (Douglas) Bruesewitz of Milan, Joseph (Jill) Schaefer of Colby, Diane (Blain) Rodman of Wausau, Terri (Mark) Peissig of Dorchester, Jean (Tony) Ludwig of Medford, Jolyn (Chris) Krohn of Wausau and James (Nancy) Schaefer of Medford; 35 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Joyce (Florian) Ahles of Marathon and Blanche Krizek of Chicago, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings, Lorraine Bousse, Werner S. Schaefer, Bernice Burger and Leslie Schaefer; and a grandson, Kristopher Kuck.
