Marg, Elizabeth A. ‘Betty’ (11 December 1918 - 3 December 2014)
Elizabeth A. ‘Betty’ Marg, 95, of Black River Falls died Wednesday, Dec. 3,
2014, in her home in the Town of Albion, Jackson County. Betty was born in
Fairchild Dec. 11, 1918, to Roy and Jane (Lightfoot) Durst. She had five
brothers and six sisters. She as well as her siblings, graduated from Fairchild
High School.
She married Walter W. Marg Dec. 17, 1938, in Iowa. The couple resided in Black
River Falls all their married lives. They worked side-by-side in the Town of
Albion, operating a dairy farm, buying and selling horses and raising their five
children. Walter preceded Betty in death June 19, 1983. She remained on the farm
until her death.
Betty was known for her wonderful wit and sense of humor, her ability to laugh,
her kindness and her positive outlook. She loved and inspired her family and
enjoyed interacting with her grandchildren.
Surviving Betty are her children: Russell Marg, St. Paul and Black River Falls,
Sharon (Chris) Romel, San Diego, CA, and Shirley (Eric) Engebretson and LuAnn
Aschenbrenner and daughter-in-law, Marjorie Marg, all of Black River Falls, nine
grandchildren, John and Steve Marg, Chris Lewis, Lisa Muth, Mike Cherwin, Kelly
(Cherwin) Fask, Karie (Cherwin) Graham, Angela Romel and Jesse Aschenbrenner; 18
great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; Three sisters, Leone
Scholze, Black River Falls, Vivian Schutte, Marshfield and Ella Jean Scholze,
Rudolph; one brother, Raymond Durst, Fairchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, David Marg,
sons-in-law: Bill Cherwin and Ray Aschenbrenner; infant grandchild Jason Marg;
brothers, Virgil, Neil, James and Ivan; and sisters, Ethel, Eva and Dorothy.
Memorial funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, from St.
John’s Lutheran Church, at the corner of Jefferson and Forrest Streets. Services
will be conducted by Pastor Steven Stork, and burial will be in Riverside
Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church Friday from 10 a.m. until
the time of services. Memorials may be given to either St. John’s Lutheran
Church (http://stjohnsbrf.org) or to
Jackson County Interfaith Caregivers (http://http://jacksoncountyinterfaithcaregivers.org).
