Engel, Walter J. Sr. (2 SEP 1933 - 5 FEB 2015)

Walter J. Engel Sr, age 81, of Abbotsford, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2015, under the tender care of hospice at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 9, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church in Stetsonville, WI. Rev. James Babler will officiate. Burial will be held in Saint Peter Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of McMillan.

Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 AM until the time of the service on Monday at the church. Military Honors provided by the Stetsonville American Legion Post #519. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.

Walter was born on September 2, 1933 the son of August and Olga (Singer) Engel, in Affton, Missouri.

He is a 1951 graduate of Mascoutah High School in Illinois. Walter was united in marriage to Velva Bach on September, 3 1960 in Milwaukee, WI.

Walter entered the US Air Force in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1956. He served during the Korean War. He worked at Maytag in Milwaukee until 1971 when the couple moved to the town of Mayville and worked for Weather Shield in Medford until his car accident on August 30, 1985.

Walter loved to fish and hunt.

Walter is survived by his wife, Velva; 2 children: Walter J. Engel Jr., Salem, OR,
Debera Schneider, Racine, WI grandson; Shawn Tendeland, Oconomowoc, special family: Manuel (Candi) Gamillo, Manny Jr., Sarah and Fransisco Gamillo, two sisters: Darlene Schaperkoetter and Sharon (Charles) Jung of Mascoutah, IL and a brother August (Margarett) Engel of Alaska, sisters-in law; Janet (Jerry) Okane of Madison, Kathy Bach of Chili and a brother-in-law; James Bach of Stratford, three nieces and two nephews and 6 great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Velva's parents, and four brothers-in-law.
