Washburn (9 August 1973)

Mr. and Mrs. Burl Stannard, Ottawa, Canada, spent from Tuesday until Friday last week with her aunt, Mrs. Chris Feutz. Mr. Stannard has an official position with the Canadian government in research. Mrs. Stannard was the former Geraldine Higgins, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Issac Higgins, Granton and Cannonville. They had spent a week visiting her brother, Floyd Higgins and family of Chicago at their cottage near Rice Lake and went from here to Janesville to visit more relatives.

Vicki Kissling, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kissling, accompanied a bus load of young people from the Lutheran Church to Houston, Tex., Thursday where they will spend a week at a Lutheran League Convention.

Mr. and Mrs. Sam Dull and son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Grey and daughter, Tucumcari, NM, called on their cousin, Mrs. Harold Elmendorf Thursday. They were on their way to Gilman to visit relatives. They formerly lived at Soldiers Grove, Wis. They will visit relatives there before returning to their homes.

Cannonville Ladies Aid will meet at the church, Wednesday, August 15, at 1:30 p.m.

Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Meddaugh and family, Mrs. Neil Meddaugh and Mrs. Harry Kissling spent last week vacationing in Minnesota. Kenneth Kingsbury and Mr White of Granton did their chores. They returned home Saturday.

Most everyone in this vicinity attended the 101st Clark County Fair last week and over the weekend.

Mrs. Elmer Kapfer was a Wednesday dinner guest of Mrs. Irving Stevens. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Stetler, Marshfield and Mrs. Floyd Wall were Wednesday evening visitors at the Stevens home.

Mrs. Nellie Urban, Clark County Hospital Owen, was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield via ambulance with a severe heart attack where she continues very ill in intensive care. Her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Urban and daughter, Brenda, visited here Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Rutherford, Black River Falls, visited Mrs. Art Odell Sunday and they all called on Mrs. Rutherford’s father, Paul Schultz, a patient at Memorial Hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Jelinek and son, Roger, spent from Thursday night until Sunday with her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Pretsch at Bensenville, Il.

Mr. and Mrs. Vern Anderson and daughter of Kenosha, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mortenson and family.

Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Spiegel recently put in some new windows and remodeled their kitchen.

Mrs. Harold Elmendorf and granddaughter, Carrie Sexton, spent the weekend at Gilman visiting her mother, mrs. Magnus Romfoe; sister, Mrs. Frank Herrman and brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Ehlert and attended a get-together Friday evening in honor of Mrs. Ehlert’s son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Teclaw and daughter of Jacksonville, NC, where Mr. Teclaw is stationed in the Navy. He is supposed to go out to sea with the Navy soon and is home on a leave. His parents live at Thorp.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Qualley picked up Mrs. Art Odell, Mrs. Ragnar Mortenson, Mrs. Frank Short and Mrs. Ida Strey Thursday afternoon and took them to her home and entertained them. She showed them their Rock Garden, Lake, Cottage, etc. and served them refreshments.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Havlicek, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Short visited Mr. and Mrs. Al Kramer near Sherwood Thursday p.m.

Mrs. Jim Faye and family, Marshfield were Friday visitors at the Mrs. Art Odell home. She was visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Barney Plummer.

Mr. and Mrs. harry Teter visited their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Herschel and family near Loyal Tuesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kapfer were Thursday evening visitors at the Elmer Kapfer home.

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Short were Sunday p.m. visitors at the Mrs. Harold Elmendorf home.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Havlicek, Sr. visited Mrs. Nettie Smock Friday at the nursing home in Black River Falls.

Mrs. Elmer Kapfer attended the Ladies Aid at Granton Methodist church Thursday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Short called on Mr. and Mrs. Harry Teter Friday evening.

Several from this vicinity attended the wedding of Mary Austin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Austin and Robert Peipenhagen of Onalaska at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Satruday afternoon with reception and dinner following at Bali Hai Supper Club.

Several ladies of the Washburn homemaker group worked in the homemaker booth at the Clark County Fair Friday evening.
