McKevitt, Randy (Military Notes - 1973)
A Neillsville man, one of four ROTC cadets at Northern Michigan University,
aided his team in gaining third place in a twenty field competition of
‘orienteering’ at Chillicothe, Ohio.
The man Randy McKevitt a junior in his second cadet meet of orienteering.
Orienteering is the sport of navigation over unfamiliar terrain using only a map
and compass and can be competitive if run against time. Those who take part in
the sport must possess skills in map reading and in reading a compass, so as to
be able to select quick, safe routes through unknown territory. McKevitt will
aid his school’s military science department at the first annual Upper-peninsula
orienteering meet, September 22.
