Wolf, Otto F. (War Letter from France – 9 JUN 1918)

Otto F. Wolf of Company B, 23rd Engineers, American Expeditionary Force, has been in France three months. He enlisted in the engineers early last year and was assigned to training at Camp Meade, Maryland. Mr. Wolf came near crossing “over there” on the Tuscania which was torpedoed. Part of his regiment was on that ship. Mr. Wolf lived in Pasadena six years before joining the colors and has lots of friends here. Here he made his home with his sister, Mrs. Harry Neff, 112 North Sierra Bonita Ave., Pasadena. He is a son of Mrs. Minnie Wolf of Neillsville, Wis., who has visited in Pasadena a number of times. –Pasadena, Col., paper

Following is a letter from Mr. Wolf to his aunt, Mrs. Ed. Remus:
Somewhere in France, June 9, 1918
Dear Aunt:
Received your letter which was written on April 27th and also the one containing Ruth Crockett’s letter. I certainly was glad to get Ruth’s letter. She was just a little girl when I worked for them and I can hardly realize that she is old enough to teach school. Next time you see her or write her, tell her “hello” for me and give her my address, and tell her I wish she would drop me a few lines about herself and the folks.

We are having fine weather here. It is quite warm today. Have not had any rain for a month or more. We are located in a beautiful part of the country, some of the prettiest hills and valleys I have seen for some time.

A couple of boys and I took a walk last Sunday and took in the sights. We were on a hill and counted fifteen little towns, all right around here. Will close for this time, hoping you folks are well. I am feeling fine and dandy and am getting along great with my French. Can say hello, goodby and a few more words.
With best wishes, your nephew, Otto Wolf.
