Geo. Forbusch went to Flambeau Monday to work.

Miss Helen Klinke was here from Greenwood Monday.

John Reine was at Marshfield Saturday on business.

Henry Ross came home from Thorp over Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. V.H. Nehs spent Sunday at Marshfield.

Miss Eulah Irvine was home from Appleton over Sunday.

Mrs. Nettie Balch returned Saturday from her visit a Madison.

Ben Dehnert was home from Lansing, Mich., for a few days furlough.

Miss Ruth Morley is here from La Crosse for a visit with Miss Marie Bruley.

Gerald Marsh received his call to report to Great Lakes and went there last Saturday.

Misses Beatrice Bruley and Genevieve Herrian were at Granton Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Al Brazier of Greenwood spent Sunday with John Irvine and family.

Mrs. Pat Melamphy and daughter, Miss Nellie, spent a few days last week at Elroy.

Arthur and Ervin Carl and Frank Roehl returned to Camp Grant Monday afternoon.

Miss Grace Christman, trimmer at the Big Store, returned home to Clinton on Monday.

Joe Herrian, who is traveling for the Chippewa Shoe Co., was home a couple of days last week.

James Turner came from Chicago Monday to spend his annual vacation with Emery Crosby.

Ben Brown and Otto Kutchera came from Lansing, Mich., Saturday for a few days furlough.

Glen Reine went to Necedah Friday to bring his grandmother home with him for a visit here.

Soren Andersen of Butternut spent Sunday here with his brother, County Clerk Ole Andersen.

Mrs. Ole Andersen and children went to Withee last week to spend a short time visiting relatives.

Frank Lepke has opened up a billiard and pool room in the building he formerly occupied as a saloon.

Miss Ruth Bublitz of Port Edwards is visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. May.

John Marsh, Sr., and John Marsh, Jr., were here from Black River Falls on Friday.

Mrs. Oscar Weinberger of La Crosse is visiting Mrs. E. Bruley and Mrs. Thomas Lowe.

Russell Vrett returned home to Reedsburg Saturday after a visit with Mr. and Mrs. John Reine.

Mrs. Otto Kalsow will entertain the Ladies Aid of the Lutheran Church on Thursday, July 11.

Miss Gertrude Smith went to Minneapolis Saturday to endeavor to engage in war work as a Red Cross nurse.

Mrs. Peter Klauer and granddaughter returned to Helenville Monday after a short visit here with relatives.

Frank Casper returned to Rockland Monday after a short visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. David Boyer.

R.A. Clemens, cashier of the First National, went to Milwaukee Monday to attend the state bankers’ convention.

Mrs. James Morrisey of Oconto Falls was an over-Sunday visitor at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Bartlett.

Miss Rosa Braun returned to La Crosse Thursday after a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Braun.

Mr. and Mrs. Art Flynn and son of Sioux Falls, S.D. came Saturday for a visit at the home of Mrs. Mary Neverman.

H.W. Klopf went to Camp Douglas Saturday to spend Sunday with the 7th regiment of Home Guards in camp there.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ketchum and Mrs. Mary Redmond of Rice Lake came last week to spend a short time with relatives here.

Will Huntley, Jr., is limping about as the result of having his foot pinched beneath a heavy plank, while unloading monuments.

Bob Brauer went to Oshkosh Wednesday and brought his wife and children home from their visit there, making the trip in their car.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ketelhud and little son, Harold, of Milwaukee will spend a few weeks with friends and relatives here.

Herman Wagner will soon be the new host at the Merchants Hotel as last week he traded a fine farm in Waupaca County to Paul Pernod for the property.

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Tisserand of Port Edwards and L. Palmatier of Withee were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. May a couple days last week.

Miss Isabelle Mason of Sparta visited with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lowe last week and on Saturday she and Mrs. Lowe went to Sechlerville to spend a few days.

C. Buddinger was at Eau Claire on Friday.

Mrs. Hattie Lee returned Friday from her visit at Fond du Lac.

Dr. F.T. Weeks went to Milwaukee Friday on a business trip.

Mrs. Maxwell went to Black River Falls Friday to spend a few days.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Jacklin on Saturday.

Frank Reinhard went to Milwaukee Sunday to drive up a new Olds 8.

Doc Hinman came up from Dundee Tuesday to spend a short time.

Herbert Dorn was home from Sparta last week on a three days’ furlough.

Miss Alvina Hauge and Miss Anna Hoesly spent the Fourth at Eau Claire.

Roy Allen was home from Sparta a couple days last week on a furlough.

Misses Eunice and Mildred Lloyd went to Racine Friday to visit with relatives.

Mrs. W.L. Smith and son, Herbert, went to Milwaukee Monday to spend a short time.

At its annual meeting last week, Marshfield voted to build a new $60,000 school building.

Mrs. Ed. Neverman of Evanston came Tuesday for a visit at the home of Mrs. Mary Neverman.

Mrs. Marcus Hoesly spent a few days last week with Mr. and Mrs. John Baumgartner at Colby.

Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Winters and children returned to Tripoli Friday after a short visit to Shortville.

Mrs. Chester Cook went to Racine Friday to spend a short time with her husband who is working there.

Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Dugal, who have operated the Merchants Hotel for the past year, have moved to St. Paul.

Emil Stelter, who works at Beloit, is home for an enforced vacation, having injured his hand on a drill punch.

Anse Dewey came up from Chicago last week and spent a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Dewey. He lives at Aurora, but travels out of Chicago for a large lumber concern.

W.D. Martin, proprietor of the Badger Theatre, made a quick trip to Minneapolis Saturday in order not to disappoint his patrons on Sunday. The films showing Evelyn Thaw and her son were held up in some manner and did not reach Minneapolis until Saturday evening, too late for shipment to Neillsville, and as there was no express delivery on Sunday, Mr. Martin went to Minneapolis and brought the films home with him on Sunday.

A company to be known as the Vesper Clay Products Company has been organized at Vesper with the following officers: President, G.A. Perry, Stillwater, Minn.; secretary, C.N. Brundage, Minneapolis; treasurer, G.A. Goldsworthy, Vesper. It is expected that the plant will have a capacity of ten to twenty carloads of drain tile and high grade face brick a day and that about four million bricks will be made this year. The company has about 58 acres of clay ground, enough to supply it with raw materials for sixty years, it is estimated.

Louis Kurth was home from Clintonville to spend a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob. Kurth.

Hale J. Moody of Greensburg, Ind., came Friday to spend a few days with his brother, C.M. Moody, and wife.

Mrs. Ida Trapp and daughter, Marguerite, of Madison spent a few days of last week with Sheriff and Mrs. Hewett.

Chas. Cornelius was at St. Paul on Tuesday attending the directors meeting of a bank of which he is vice-president.

Mrs. Wm. Schiller started for her home at Glendive, Mont., Saturday, after a few weeks visit here with her father, Jos. Barton.

Mrs. Frank Roach and two sons of Chippewa Falls arrived here last Wednesday for a brief visit with her mother, Mrs. Anna Neis.

Mrs. Chas. Shramek returned Saturday from her visit at Chicago. She was accompanied by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Laddie Shramek, and son.

Robert McCalcy, accompanied by Jos. Bass, went to Wisconsin Veterans Home Saturday. He had been home for several weeks on a visit.

Mrs. Millard Parker and son came Saturday from Deere River, Minn., to spend a short time with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Beardsley.

Mr. and Mrs., Harry Darling and son of Spooner and Mrs. Bartlett of Merrillan were over-Fourth guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Bartlett.

John Parker came down from Owen last week Wednesday to join his wife and son in a visit with relatives here. They returned home Monday.

E.J. Ketel has been appointed chairman of the county explosives committee and will do this work in conjunction with his food administration work.

E.A. Gault went to Valley Junction Friday to spend a few days with his sister, Mrs. Sylvia Wilson, who had been here on a visit and returned on Friday.

Geo. B. Parkhill of Abbotsford spent a couple days here last week interviewing the voters relative to his candidacy for the Republican nomination for district attorney.

Mr. and Mrs. M. O’Brien were here from Alma Center for the Fourth.

Milo Woodford and family of Black River Falls visited with friends here a couple days last week.

Wm. Waterpool was at St. Paul last week trying to enlist in the marines, but failed on the eyesight test. He had previously attempted to enlist in the aviation service, but failed there on account of his eyesight, and is now planning to make a last effort by enlisting in the navy.
