Janick, S.J. (On Trial for Draft Evasion – 15 Jul 1918)
S.J. Janick of town Thorp is one of those who will be tried at Eau Claire in the
U.S. District court for draft evasion and he is now under $10,000 bond. Janick
failed to show up at the time called and was reported as delinquent to the
government officials. He came to this city on Monday, claiming that he had moved
from his former post office address and did not receive the former notice. He
had not notified the local board of any change of address. He also stated Monday
that he was wrongly classified as he was a minister and should have been put
into Class 5. However, he will have to plead his case before the District Court.
