Rowe, William M. (11 MAY 1850 – 19 Jul 1918)
Wm. M. Rowe, an old pioneer and respected citizen, died at his home here last
Friday afternoon, after an illness of only two days. The first symptoms of his
illness was dizzy spells and vomiting on Thursday, and when medical aid arrived,
it was found that his illness would be very short, as he was suffering from
inflammation of the bowels and hemorrhages. The next afternoon he passed away.
He leaves to mourn for him his wife, six sons and one daughter, who are Walter,
Ernest, Jesse and Forest of York, Glenn of Marinette, Vernon of McCleary, Wash.,
and Mrs. Jennie Fulwiler of York, also five brothers and a sister. They are:
Joseph of Santa Monica, Cal., Byron of Plymouth, John of Fond du Lac, Edward of
Neillsville, George of Marshfield and Mrs. Mary Redmond of Oshkosh, and 17
grandchildren. He was born in Philadelphia on May 11, 1850, and came to Clark
County when this seemed to be a vast wilderness, purchased some land, and
endured all the hardships of an early pioneer, has resided on his farm ever
since. During his younger years he followed the carpenter trade, and for a
number of years has been health officer for this town. He had attained the age
of 68 years, two months and 8 days. The funeral took place on Wednesday in the
M.E. Church here, Rev. Steavy conducting the services.
So ends a useful life and sympathy is extended to the bereft ones.
