Clapper, John Edward (6 April 1946 - 10 January 2015) With Flag
John Edward Clapper, 68, of Humbird, died unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015,
at his home. John was born April 6, 1946, in Sarcoxie, MO, to Francis and Velma
(Berrier) Clapper.
After graduating from high school he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corp in 1966.
While serving, he was trained in radio operation and repair. He received the
rank of sergeant and top honors in marksmanship. He was honorable discharged in
1971. Following the service, he worked as a machinist in Missouri until moving
to the Humbird area in 1973. He worked for Ludeman’s South Alma Cheese Factory
until he retired in 2011.
John married Gloria Miles Sept. 15, 1972, in Berryville, AK. They were later
divorced. John was a member of Humbird American Legion Post $0320. He enjoyed
playing softball, horseshoes and darts with friends.
John is survived by his children: Eugene Clapper of Fredericksburg, VA, Sheila
Marie Crudup of Richmond, VA, Sheila Dawnette Simonette of Hatfield, Tina Marie
(Robert) Diggins of Black River Falls, Christopher Lee (Kathy) Clapper of
Roseburg, OR, Travis John (Kathryn) Clapper of Alma Center and Crystal Gayle (Soren)
Marg of Merrillan. He is further survived by one brother, Francis Clapper of
Pierce City, Mo; four sisters, Beatrice (Bill) Weaver of Mt. Vernon, MO, Juanita
Clayton of Fresno, CA, Lois (Carl) Phillips of Lufkin, TX, Marilyn (Norman)
Holland of Pierce City, MO; 20 grandchildren and numerous extended family and
friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Velma; brothers: Robert,
Gary and Glenn and one sister, Jeanne Johnson.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at Jensen-Modjeski
Funeral Home in Hixton with Rev. Terry Marg officiating. Friends called from 12
p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home Sunday.
