Columbia (16 August 1973)
There are several reports of black bears being seen in our area. Bears are berry
eaters and berries are plentiful this season, so you may meet a bear in the
berry patch.
Mr. and Mrs. John Carter and daughter, Jennifer, of Michigan, visited her
parents, Dr. and Mrs. J. W. Brooks, at the Ghost Town Ranch several days last
week.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence McDonell, daughter, Susie and foster child, Avedo
Fitzpatrick, of Milwaukee, are vacationing at their cottage on Cherry Street.
Avedo is a 14-month-old African boy.
Mr. and Mrs. Lester Brown of Beloit attended the Clark County Fair and visited
Mr. and Mrs. William Sollberger. The Browns own a lot in Columbia.
Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Peterson of Ripon spent a weekend in Columbia.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Schwendland of Cherokee Valley, Ark., visited Georgeana and
William Schulz Monday forenoon of last week. Bill Schulz visited Herbert Wegner
in Pine Valley Monday evening. Mr. and Mrs. James Votava and two children of
Cicero, Il., called on the Schulzes Friday evening.
Joe Jarems and son, Jim, of North Lake, Il., were guests Friday of Mr. and Mrs.
Wilson Bohnhoff. They left Saturday morning for a weeks’ vacation in Minnesota.
Mrs. Wally Clodfelter and children, and her parents, two sisters and a brother,
all of Poynette, visited Mr. and Mrs. George Mashin one day last week.
Mr and Mrs. Stanley Wampole and daughter, Rhonda, of Madison visited her
parents, the Mashins, last weekend. Ed Mashin of Humbird visited at the Mashin
home Sunday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Pluchinsky and two grandchildren, Sandy and Kathy Szot, of
Vintondale, Penn., were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Bohnhoff. The
Bohnhoffs’ entertained relatives and friends in honor of their departing guests,
Bernice Wroblewski and daughter, Anna, who are returning to their home in
Dunstable Beds, England. Others present were Mrs. Helen Evans, Merrill; Mrs.
Dale Foemmel, sons, Ricky and Loren, and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Jurkiewicz. The
Wroblewskis were taken to Mosinee Saturday by Mrs. Evans, where they boarded a
plane. Mrs. Bohnhoff accompanied them and planned to visit her son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Gollubske, and children, in Wausau for several
days.
Mr and Mrs. Harvey Sherman of Altoona, Mrs. Bertha Sherman of Merrillan, and
William Sollberger visited Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Sollberger in Athens Friday.
