The Wisconsin Krueger Family Tragedy (Kay Scholtz - 2015)
The Black River Falls Public Library will welcome back Clark County author, Kay
Scholtz, Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. Scholtz will share the writing
of her book on the Krueger Family tragedy, which took place Sept. 14, 1918, near
Withee. The farm family found their lives torn apart for refusing to fight in a
war overseas. Their home was surrounded and shot up that day by lawmen and
neighbors in what Frank Krueger later dubbed ‘a patriotic frenzy.’ With one man
dead and several injured, two of the four Krueger brothers suffered the
consequences with life imprisonment while their youngest brother disappeared.
The Krueger story made press across the U. S.
In her book, ‘The Wisconsin Krueger Family Tragedy - 16 years of Letters from
Prison,’ Scholtz shares excerpts from the never-before published collection of
several hundred letters exchanged by the Krueger family.
