Wenzel Fleischmann, the new baker, arrived Monday, and took possession of the Becherer Bakery. He comes recommended as a first-class baker from the quality of bread, rolls, etc., turned out at the first baking, we thinks the recommend speaks right. Colby Phonograph, 1 Jul 1897

Wenzel Fleishman Was born in Germany, March of 1866. He and his wife, Anna Grosskopf, were both born and reared in Germany. She was eight years younger than Wenzel having been born in May of 1876. He immigrated to the United States in September, 1891 and was naturalized and she arrived in 1894, but never renounced her native citizenship. The year after her arrival, they were married (20 Aug 1895). They became the parents of Lucy in December, 1897 and Felix Wenzel who arrived in the August heat of 1899. When the 1900 Census was taken in Colby, Wisconsin, 20 yr. old Minnie Feind (b. Feb 1880) a single woman who had also immigrated from Germany, was employed by the Fleischman's as a servant. She was listed as a house servant, but Wenzel had just opened a grocery store with a bakery in 1897 and it seems likely she may have worked there as well as caring for the two children since Lucy was just 2 yrs. old and Felix had not yet had his first birthday . Besides being a busy mom, Anna who was 24 yrs. old in 1900 was listed as a saleswoman and she likely promoted the family business. They apparently had a fairly large home because when the 1905 Wisconsin State Census was recorded, Alfred Burns and 17 yr. old Bertha La Budd were boarding there as well a new servant, 23 yr. old Grayce Fleischmann who may have been a niece of Wenzel.
