Ostling, Hellen (24 August 1882 - 14 August 1973)

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Georgas Funeral Home for Mrs. Hellen (Hagen) Ostling of Memorial Home, who died August 14, at the age of 90. The Rev. Frank Sarbo, Ontonagon, Mi., officiated and burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Ostling, the daughter of Andrew and Tomine (Hanson) Gullickson, was born August 24, 1882, in Lillisand, Norway, where she received her education. She came to the United States at the age of 19 after working for a time in Oslo. She worked in Neillsville area and was married to Peter Hagen on May 4, 1909. The couple farmed in the Town of Pine Valley until his death May 26, 1932.

She met Anton Ostling in Michigan and they were married November 7, 1934. Mrs. Ostling lived in Michigan until her husband’s death January 26, 1948, and returned to Clark County thereafter. She also spent a few years living with her daughter in Oregon. A member of the Assembly of God Church, Mrs. Ostling had resided at Memorial Home for the past several years.

Surviving are four children, Theodore Hagen of Ontonagon, Mi., Oscar Hagen of Long Beach, Ca, Mrs. Walter (Erna) Lueck of Marshfield and Mrs. Paul (Esther) Snyder of Marcola, Or.; four stepchildren, Alfred Ostling of Ontonagon, Mi., Mrs. Elmer (Dorothy) Klovstad of Port Wing, Donald Ostling of New York, N.Y., and Mrs. Alfred (Astrid) Swanson of Lake Geneva; and 17 grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Everett A. Kauffman, Theo. Freezy, Steve Schlinsog, Walter and Justin P. Wirkuty and Richard Badgen. Miss Bonnie Meissner was the accompanist for Harold Schlinsog, who sang ‘My Heavenly Father Watches over Me’ and ‘Under His Wings’.

Peterson, Huntley, Il.; Mrs. Nellie Barber, Woodstock, Il; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Badgerow and family, Dundee, Il.; Mr. and Mrs. Theo L. Freezy, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Stevens and Mr. and Mrs. William Rohloff, Spencer; Mrs. Tony Bezlyk, Chili; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wirkuty and Justin Wirkuty, Eugene, Or.; and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Schlinsog and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Schlinsog, Granton.
