Gokey, Vane L. (16 OCT 1903 – 8 AUG 1967)

Funeral services for Vane L. Gokey Sr., 63, Abbotsford, who died Aug. 8, 1967, were held Thursday at 2 o'clock at the First United Church of Christ, Colby.

The Rev. Kenneth Dix officiated at the services, during which Ronnie Boss of Colby was organist and accompanist for Gary Nehrbass of Athens, who sang "Take Thou My Hand" and "I Heard the Voice of Jesus."

Serving as pallbearers for the interment, which was made in the Abbotsford Cemetery, were Mel Atzen, Harold Christensen, Lowell Dorn, Robert Knight, Wilbur Kuehnast and Alfred Scheel.

Honorary pallbearers were Royal Awe Dan Fischer, Harold Halder, Kenneth Laube and Herbert Meyers.

Mr. Gokey was born at Norie, Wis., Oct. 16, 1903. He lived in Abbotsford since 1931, where he was a barber until ill health forced his retirement in 1965. He was stricken with a heart attack on August 5 and died at Memorial Hospital, Wausau, August 8, 1967.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Vane Gokey Jr., and four grandchildren of Colby.

He leaves one sister, Mrs. Noah (Ruby) Raber of Ladysmith and one brother, James Gokey, of the Veterans Administration at Wood. He is also survived by two forster brothers and two foster sisters: Arden Hoeft of Tomah, Melvin Hoeft of Sturdevant, Mrs. Al (Helen) Skogen of Tomah and Mrs. Stanley (Eldora) Hill of Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Harriet Gokey; his foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hoeft, and two brothers and two sisters.

Among those attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Noah Raber and family of Ladysmith, Mr. and Mrs. Al Skogen of Tomah, Mr. and Mrs. Arden Hoeft of Camp Douglas, Melvin Hoeft of Racine, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Jacobi and family of Wausau, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Jacobi of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Josart of Minocqua, and friends from Marshfield, Medford, Athens, Curtiss, Owen, Dorchester, Colby and Abbotsford.
