Griebenow, Alfred (Accidental Fatal Shooting – 8 Aug 1918)
Last week a series of accidents occurred in Clark County, three of them being
fatal. Two of the accidents were the result of firearms in the hands of
children.
At Owen, Alfred Griebenow, the 6-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Greibenow,
was shot and instantly killed by a playmate with a 38 cal. automatic revolver.
The two boys were at the home of the Fesington boy and the Fesington boy found
the revolver, pointed it at the Greibenow boy and pulled the trigger. The shot
struck the little victim near the shoulder, cutting the jugular vein, and death
being almost instant. The Greibenow lad was a bright little fellow and his death
cast a gloom over the village of Owen.
Agnes Norma Timmler, dAughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Timmler, met death in a
particularly sorrowful manner at the home of her parents in North Pine Valley on
Wednesday evening of last week. Her death was a great shock to her friends and
associates for she was a little girl of unusual ability and sweet disposition.
She was born at the Timmler farm in Pine Valley on Dec. 5, 1903, and attended
school at the Mound School for some time, later attending school at Neillsville.
She displayed great ability and promise in her school work and her pleasing and
winsome manners made her a universal favorite, so that her untimely end is
deeply mourned.
The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon, services being conducted at the
Reformed Church by Rev. Grether and Rev. Longenecker. Interment was made in the
Neillsville Cemetery. Those who were here from away for the funeral were: Dr.
and Mrs. A.F. Dettman and dAughter of Bonduel; Mrs. [illegible] and dAughter and
E.O. Dettman of Kewaskum; Miss Alma Dettman and Mrs. A. Dettman of West Bend;
Mr. and Mrs. Harry [illegible], Mr. and Mrs. S. Wendel, Albert Dettman, Mrs. W.M.
Dettman, Robert and Harvey Dettman, Walter Trauenhein, Mrs. R. Trauenhein and
George Roever of Random Lake; Mrs. Otto Klein of Fredonia, and Mrs. John Hein of
Port Washington.
Andrew Vierhuntz, a farmer living near Gorman, was killed on Friday when he
slipped from a load of hay, falling behind the horses and being trampled to
death when the team ran away.
