Seif, Louis J. (4 JAN 1891 – 4 Aug 1918)
Note: picture included in newspaper
Neillsville joined Mayor and Mrs. Fred Seif in mourning the loss of their
youngest son, Louis, who was killed in action in France on August 4th. The
message telling of the death of Louis was received by Mr. Seif on Friday
afternoon and was a great shock to this community, for he was one of the finest
boys Neillsville ever claimed. He was born in the town of Seif on Jan. 4, 1891,
and came to this city with his parents 14 years ago. He attended and graduated
from the Neillsville High School and then went to Philadelphia College of
Pharmacy, graduating from there. He came home and shortly after, in 1915, went
to Mellen to take a position in a drugstore. When the United States entered the
war, Louis enlisted and became 2nd Lieut. in the Mellen company. He went to
France a 2nd Lieut. in Co. M of the 127th Infty. on Feb. 15, 1918, and made the
supreme sacrifice on Aug. 4th.
A finer specimen of young manhood than Louis J. Seif would be difficult to find.
He was physically perfect and morally of the very highest standard. He was quiet
in his demeanor, but had so many splendid traits of character that he was
universally respected and admired and it is certain that the death of no young
man in this city is more deeply regretted than that of Louis. He was a member of
the Masonic Lodge of this city. He is survived by his mother and father and the
following brothers: Frank in Montana, David of town York, John of town Seif,
Charles and Fred of this city.
