Bede grew up in Stanley and graduated from Stanley High in 1944. She married Richard Shilts on May 29, 1948. They were a perfect match. He loved to make people laugh; and she loved to laugh. This love story lasted almost 68 years. Beatrice was a loving wife and mother who will be dearly missed.

Bede was a member of the Stanley Swingers-Red Hatters, a volunteer for the Victory Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and was a lifelong member at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She worked for over 20 years for the Stanley-Boyd School District in the cafeteria.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Shilts; her children: Richard (Karen) Shilts of Stoughton, Lee (Margaret) Shilts of Ormond Beach, FL, Debra (Mike) Savina of Stanley, and Steve (Laure) Shilts of Chippewa Falls; five grandchildren: Joshua (Falyn) Shilts, Jacob Shilts, Nikolas Shilts, Matthew (Gretchen) Savina and Megan (Dennis) LaMarche; three great-grandchildren: Jordon and Zachary Shilts, and Brea LaMarche; and two sisters: Dorothy (Robert) Huhn of Rhinelander, and Ruth (Fred) Noah of Hawthorne, CA.

Bede is preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Donald.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Stanley, with Pastor Ken Schmidt officiating. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation was from 4 until 7 p.m. on Monday at the Plombon Funeral Home, Stanley, and from 10 a.m. Tuesday until time of service at the church. Memorials are appreciated to the Stanley Historical Society or the church.
