Engel, “Tootie” Edith (Amo) (13 MAR 1926 - 6 MAR 2015)
Tootie (Edith) Engel, 88, of Dorchester, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2015 at
Golden LivingCenter in Abbotsford.
Family and friends are invited to a birthday and life celebration of Tootie on
Friday, March 13 at the RJ Stockwell Auction Site, north of Dorchester on Hwy 13
from 5 to 8 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Saint
Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester. Father Daniel Hackel will officiate. Rosary
will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday and visitation following until the time of
service. Inurnment will be in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
Tootie was born on March 13, 1926 to Albert and Lena (Gamper) Amo. She attended
Medford schools and married LeRoy Engel on June 14, 1944. He preceded her in
death on December 8, 1974.
They farmed in the town of Mayville, Dorchester, on LeRoy's family farm until
1974.
Tootie worked for Gorke Bus Service as a bus driver. She also waitressed for The
Plantation Supper Club in Medford and Scidmore's in Curtiss. Tootie managed the
concession stand at the Dorchester Park during the summer for ball games and
tournaments for several years. During her free time, she enjoyed watching
children in the area and brought humor to their lives. But most of all, Tootie
will be remembered for her quick wit and many sayings.
Tootie is survived by seven children, Terry (Melvin) Deml of Edgerton, Susie
(Jim) Newcomb of Edgerton, Barb (Jeff) Bublitz of Edgerton, Cathy (Allan)
Peissig of Stetsonville, Dennis Engel of Dorchester, Beaner (Randy) Stockwell of
Dorchester and Jaycine (Gary) Geiger of Dorchester; 29 grandchildren; 67
great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is further
survived by her three sisters, Inez Loertscher of Medford, Odile Wollum of
Colorado and Norma Riegert of Medford; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends.
Tootie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LeRoy; a brother, James
Amo; three sisters, Fern Werner, Mae Perkins and Lucille Etten; a
daughter-in-law, Jan Engel; and a great-grandchild, Grant Smazal.
