Gehrke, Alfred Ernest (17 JUN 1921 - 23 FEB 2015)
Alfred Ernest Gehrke, age 93, of Owen, passed away Monday, February 23, 2015 at
his place of residence in the town of Longwood. Military rights conducted by the
Owen American Legion Post #123, Lublin American Legion Post #547 and the O-W
Vets Club and burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Withee at a later date.
Alfred was born June 17, 1921 to Ernest and Ruby (Holcombe) Gehrke in Loyal. He
received his education in Owen schools, until 5th grade. He then worked the
family farm until he was enlisted in the Army in September 30, 1942. Alfred
served his country during World War II, and was discharged on December, 25 1945
as a Tec5.
Alfred and Villa Elaine Anderson were joined in marriage on November 15, 1949 in
Neillsville, WI. Villa preceded him in death on August 31, 2004. He worked at
Wicks Manufacturing in Spencer, WI, drove milk truck, and was a cheese maker.
Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family especially his
grandchildren, going out to eat and being outdoors.
Alfred is survived by three grandchildren; Fred Matson, Greg Matson, and Sandi
(Mike) Brooks, many great-grandchildren, and one brother; Allen Gehrke of Fort
Meyers, FL.
Alfred is preceded in death by his wife, parents, his children; Peggy Ann
Matson, and Linda Mae Haver, grandchildren; Vicki Mae Haver and Melissa Matson,
his sisters: Alice Gehrke, Julia Gehrke, Margaret Holmes, and Grace Boyles; and
his brothers: Lewis Gerhke, Paul Gehrke, Russell Gehrke, Donald Gehrke, and
Julius “Bud” Gehrke.
