Humbird (20 September 1973)

Mrs. Chester Baily came home Tuesday from the hospital and is coming along well, but must take it easy.

Mrs. Fannie Sheffer, who has been living in a home at Black River Falls, recently underwent major surgery. She is reported coming along very well and is back in the home.

Dale Austin and son, Cary, of Beloit, came Friday night to spend until Sunday at the home of Mrs. Laura Dignin. They attended the park dedication at Merrillan.

Mr. and Mrs. John Greub attended the Columbia Old-Timers picnic held at Snyder’s Park, near Neillsville, Sunday afternoon. Ed Mashin was also in attendance. They report the group grows smaller each year, but a very enjoyable affair, even though the weather Sunday was rather chilly.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Elger spent Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Levi Fitzmaurice and Millie.

Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Sieg and children were dinner guests Sunday of her grandmother, Mrs. Laura Dignin.

Among our sick folks: Mrs. Will Theiler had minor surgery in the Neillsville Memorial Hospital and is hoping to be home soon. Mrs. Gladys Lightfoot was taken to the Neillsville Memorial Hospital Thursday for care and treatment. She is improving. Edwin Zimmerman is an elderly man and it is a bit hard for him to be alone.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Breheim of Merrillan visited Saturday evening at the Perle Pickett Home.

Mrs. Inga Dunn of Hixton and Mrs. Marie Tuxson of Taylor called Monday at the home of Mrs. Johanna Olson.

Mrs. Emma Gerber, Matie Smith and Art Christen were dinner and afternoon guests Sunday at the Everett Smith home in Spencer.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Laffe accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Harold Losey of Fairchild to Merrillan Sunday, where they attended the dedication of the park shelter and enjoyed the picnic dinner.

Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Newell and Virgil spend the weekend in Lakeland, Mn, at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Gordon Staves.

Mr. and Mrs. Thane Joos and Karen of Alma Center attended a picnic dinner at Chippewa Falls Satruday. They were accompanied as far as Eau Claire by her mother, Mrs. Maude Newton. On their return, the Joos stopped in Eau Claire to have a birthday supper at the home of Mrs. Helene Nelson. Others present were Mr. and Mrs. Hilliard Russell of Minneapolis and David Joos and Sue Kurntz of Janesville.

Ronnie Burkhalter of Rockford came Saturday morning and with his grandmother, Mrs. Johanna Olson, were dinner guests at the Allen Zimmerman home in Fairchild and supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Lien in Hixton.
Sunday was spent visiting relatives in the Hixton area.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Zerbel and children and his mother, Mrs. Freida Zerbel, drove to Stevens Point to spend Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Kleckner.

Mr. and Mrs. Leland Duxbury recently enjoyed a trip through the Dakotas and Iowa. They were gone four days.

Mr. and Mrs. John Phillips and Marion were weekend visitors in the Art Odell home in Wisconsin Rapids.

Mrs. Leonard Nelson of the Garden Valley area came home Saturday from the Neillsville Hospital, where she had surgery on her feet.

Mr. and Mrs. Roger Nering and two boys, and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Buttke of Milwaukee, were weekend guests at the Ted Polege home.

Mrs. Emma Gerber and Mrs. Freida Zerbel spent Friday afternoon with Mrs. Dewey Lang and also went to see the new garage Roy Johnson recently built, which is really a wonderful place.

Mr. and Mrs. Perle Pickett were last Thursday evening callers at the Fred Rupnow home. Mr. Rupnow had been in the Neillsville Hospital with a cracked hip and is now able to get about with a walker.
