Sromek, Jeanie W. (? - 4 March 2015)
Jeanie W. Sromek, 67, of Neillsville passed away March 4, 2015, after a
year-long fight against ALS, at her home with Greg by her side.
Jeanie led a life full of laughter and love. She was always making others smile
with her sassy sense of humor. She enjoyed helping others while working as a
housekeeper for Neillsville Memorial Hospital, volunteering for the blood drive,
working at the Clark County Horse Sale and assisting with the Lights of Love.
She said in the months preceding her death, ‘I have had a good life. I have
wanted and needed nothing more. Who can say that?’ She enjoyed simply spending
her time at home with her family, at the pond with a cool drink, making
personalized greeting cards for family and friends or doing something on one of
her computers, especially playing Candy Crush (Level 806).
Prior to living in Neillsville, she grew up in Bellinger and went to school in
Lublin, Thorp and Gilman. She then met the love of her life, Greg, when she
moved to Chicago, even though they grew up in the same small town in northern
Wisconsin. She lived in Chicago for 10 years before moving back to Wisconsin.
She stood by her husband, Greg, through his time in Vietnam and until her last
breath.
She will be missed dearly and thought of often by her husband, Gregory F. Sromek
of Neillsville; a daughter Lisa Sromek of Slinger and her son, Ethan Engen and
his father, Scott Engen; a son, Gregory S. (Chandra) Sromek of Chilton and their
three children, Atom, Aurora and Orion; her mother, Jean Hendzel of Lublin; five
siblings: Walter (Marie) Hendzel Jr. of Chicago, IL, Ed (Rachel) Hendzel of
Gilman, Barb (friend, Sandy Bashaw) Hendzel of Thorp, Theresa (Ray) Kliscz of
Lublin and Laurie (Tom) Schertler of Mount Prospect, IL; a Goddaughter, Fran
Kliscz of Hampton, NH; a Godson, Mike Cornell of Los Angeles, CA, and other
family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Hendzel.
A memorial service for Jeanie will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14, at the
Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. Rev. Varkey V. Joseph will officiate.
Interment will be in Lublin at a later date. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to
11 a.m. Saturday, March 14, at the Gesche Funeral Home.
Online condolences may be made at

with funeral arrangements.
