Kernz, Rica J. (1 OCT 1923 – 15 MAR 2015)

Rica J. Kernz, 91, of Marshfield, WI, formerly of Hatfield, died on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at the Marshfield Care Center in Marshfield, WI.

Rica Jane West was born on October 1, 1923 in Neillsville, WI the daughter of George and Hazel (Slocumb) West. On October 18, 1941 she was united in marriage to Joseph S. Kernz at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville. They farmed in Neillsville for a short time before moving to Marshfield. Rica worked at Weyerhauser, LaMere Photography and also sold Stanley Products at home while raising her family. Rica spent time gardening and cooking and was known as a very social butterfly who loved to dance at the Silver Dome, play cards, visit with many family and friends and laugh. Whenever she was with her sisters you would be sure to hear a lot of laughter. When Rica and Joe retired they moved to their cabin in Hatfield that they enjoyed very much.

Rica was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marshfield and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Jane (Ted) Errio of Hatfield, WI, five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Rica was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Donny, daughters, Kathy, Linda and Sharon, siblings Bud, Jim, Roy, Rose, Fern, Beulah and Daisy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 19, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville, WI. The Celebrant will be Rev. Varkey V. Joseph. Providing music will be Ronald Resong, organist and St. Mary's Choir. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning at the church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Neillsville.
