Combs, William H. (3 JAN 1879 – 25 APR 1965)

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, April 28, at the United Church of Christ for William Henry Combs. Rev. Robert Goessling officiated, with burial being made at the Riverside Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Morris Martin, Ed Sluzewski, Cal Erickson, Owen Melin, Ted Stegeman and John Hemminger. Madeline Weyhe and Ruth Ericson were in charge of the floral offerings.

Mr. Combs passed away Sunday, April 25, 1965 at St. Joseph's Hospital at Marshfield, where he had been a patient since suffering a stroke at his home 10 days previous.

William Henry Combs was 86 years, 3 months and 22 days of age at the time of his death, being born Jan. 3, 1879 in Indiana. He lived in Illinois until 1915, when he and his family moved to Great Falls, Mont. In 1924 they came to this community, settling on a farm where they made their home until 1942, when he retired and moved into Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), where he has since resided.

He was married Dec. 4, 1901 at Houston, Ind., to Sarah Pruitt, who preceded him in death in 1944. On Dec. 6, 1945 he married Bertha Sather, who survives his passing, as do two sons, Fred, Lansing, Mich., and Roy, Dowagiac, Mich.; three daughters, Mrs. August (Connie) Slock and Mrs. Ray (Essie) Slock, rural Withee, and Mrs. Roger (Blanche) Hutton, Bloomer; seven grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons.
